I always hesitate to refer people to their business for fear that one day everyone will know how incredibly beneficial they are and I won’t be able to get an appointment. That said, I can’t keep a good thing to myself. Their staff is so knowledgable when it comes to an athlete’s mindset and needs. They’ve seen me through the worst hamstring strain and got me back on my feet again. They are a regular part of my maintenance routine today.

Another part of my injury prevention routine is my visits to Dr. Tom Fletcher at Wasatch Health Solutions. His ART (Active Release Technique) is one of the reasons I’m still running today. He’s my go-to when I feel the first flare-up in my IT band!

Shop local. Support the people who support you. I love the Wasatch Running Center. Not only do they supply me with all my running gear, but they give back to the same community they serve by sponsoring races, even running the Utah Grand Slam each year. Their employees love running as much as their customers and always steer me toward the gear that works best for me, not the gear that earns them the most profit. And if they don’t have what you’re looking for, they’ll find it for you! Can’t beat service like that!

Trigger Point Therapy

In between massage sessions I foam roll my legs, glutes and back with my Trigger Point foam roller.  They have a variety of products for every massage need.




I’m not a fan of music when I run.  In fact, I don’t listen to anything during a race and I find time goes by so much faster.  Plus I’m more in tune with my body and perform better.  But long runs are different.  Without the adrenaline and the crowds, long runs get tedious.  To combat the monotony, I stock up on podcasts.  I love so many.  I love running podcasts like Another Mother Runner and Two Gomers Run For Their Lives.  I love political podcasts like Decode DC and Pantsuit Politics.  I love general podcasts like Satellite Sisters, Beautiful Anonymous, and Awesome Etiquette.  A few more of my must listens: Fresh Air; Terrible, Thanks for Asking; Anna Farris is Unqualified; Voices of Reason (a local show); How to Be Amazing; Here’s the Thing with Alec Baldwin.  You can subscribe to all of these shows and download specific episodes on iTunes.


Sparkly Soul Headbands

I have short hair and a small head.  So many headbands slip right off, but not these.  I bought my first Sparkly Soul Headband at the New York City Marathon in 2011 and have worn them ever since.  They come in a variety of sizes, widths, patterns and colors.



Mat Hatter

This is one of those products I wish I’d thought of sooner.  Gym mats are gross.  Sweat, hair, hands that have been who-knows-where.  Mat Hatter mat covers slip easily over your gym mat to give you a clean surface to work.  Bonus: they’re machine washable.
